Germicidal Lamp Overview Germicidal Lamps are low pressure mercury vapor lamps which produce ultraviolet rays that are lethal to micro organisms. Radiations are generated by an electrical discharge through low pressure inert gases and mercury vapor within the special quartz tube of the lamp. Approximately 95% of the UV rays from the lamp are at the wave length of 2537A,(commonly referred to as 254nm) which is the region of maximum bactericidal effectiveness. First Light Technologies, Inc.s Germicidal lamps are available in "L" Quartz (non-ozone) and "VH" Quartz (very high ozone). Applications - Germicidal lamps are utilized in many applications including:
Ozone Besides producing 2537 Angstrom unit wave lengths of ultraviolet, some germicidal lamps are designed to produce controlled amounts of a shorter wave length of ultraviolet measured at 1850 Angstrom units (commonly referred to as 185nm). This wave length has the power of generating ozone which is a form of oxygen and is an extremely effective germicidal agent. Ozone also has the power of oxidizing odor molecules and therefore acts as a deodorizer. A further advantage is that ozone can be carried by air into places that the UV rays cannot reach directly. Ozone producing lamps are commonly used for pool and spa water treatment, T.O.C. reduction and air purification. Hot Cathode Lamps Hot Cathode Lamps have triple-coiled filaments as cathodes that are heated by the arc current. First Light Technologies utilizes a filament construction with a nickel inner lead in a clamped filament design similar in construction to a standard fluorescent lamp. Slimline or instant start lamps utilize high voltage for starting and are especially suited to applications such as water purification. Preheat lamps use a glow switch starter to preheat the filament prior to starting and generally use standard fluorescent ballast which provide the advantages of space and economy. Custom Germicidal Lamps First Light Technologies, Inc. offers the capability of manufacturing a wide variety of ultraviolet lamps designed to your specifications and application. A wide range of glass types, glass diameter, cathodes, bases, shapes and lengths can be utilized to produce a lamp to meet your unique requirements. In-house engineering capability and manufacturing capacity allow First Light to significantly reduce the lead-time from concept to production. First Light welcomes the opportunity to provide engineering support in response to your specific application.
Amalgam
Lamps - First Light Technologies, Inc. offers amalgam lamps that deliver up to 3
times the UVC output of standard low pressure UVC lamps. First Light Technologies
Amalgam series of lamps are designed to operate efficiently at higher operating
temperatures than standard and (HO) lamps. These benefits allow equipment manufacture to
realize greater efficiency and lower equipment cost. First Lights amalgam series is
a cost effective alternative to medium pressure lamps. In house manufacturing capabilities

HO
Lamps - First Light Technologies, Inc. offers High Output
(HO) in all lamp configurations; these lamps will deliver up to two thirds more UV output
than standard lamps. First Lights HO lamps are offered with the
standard HO filament or can be equipped with our long life electrode.
First Light Technologies, Inc. works closely with the OEM to customize a high output lamp solution that is configured to meet the OEMs specific application. Engineering support includes proper ballast selection and sourcing.
First Light offers its full range of germicidal lamps available with an internal coating. Our coating process yields lamps that are more resistant to solarization. The coating helps provide a barrier between the mercury in the lamp and the quartz body of the lamp. This provides our customers with the following benefits.
Lower equipment costs by reduced lamp quantities (Higher dosage at end of life)
Quartz Sleeve Fabrication - First Lights germicidal lamps and quartz sleeves are manufactured using 99.9% pure fused quartz. This material allows for maximum UV transmission. Quartz sleeves are available in a wide variety of lengths and diameters. First Lights capabilities include cutting, doming, bending, polishing, splicing, and flaring. Other operations are available upon request. Custom Ceramic Onlay - First Light Technologies, Inc. can provide lamp bases c Bases
